Our heroes start in the Rookie World
|
The Megablasters graphics artist, Rex of Beng!, was extremely creative and produced quite a lot of output, designing loads of enemies, end-of-world Enemies, backgrounds and story-screens.
The Rookie World actually wasn't planned, but after creating all the other worlds using the huge amount of enemy characters created by Rex I still had some nice looking characters left over and so I decided to add another world in front of the original starting World „Village People“
Some test players had complained that the first world was too hard, so I was quite happy to be able to create an additional starting world. To make it obvious that this world was made simple enough for beginners I called it „Box of Toys“ and used all the different toy characters Rex had painted.
Level 1: Let's start the fun!

The intelligence of these characters is very limited: they just move around in clockwise or counterclockwise circles and they don't offer much resistance (besides the Toy Tank). You can easily blow them away by dropping bombs close to them and hope that they will run into the explosion. And they also don't take many hits before they die.
This world was designed to be simple and manageable for all players. The gamers were supposed to have an easy time getting adjusted to dropping bombs and evading their own explosions while hitting enemies instead. Also all the important extras were introduced in this world, so that one had time to figure out how to use the different extras, e.g. how to handle the remote control to inflict as much damage as possible and what all the fire and bomb extras were used for.
Also the collection of the BONUS letters was introduced, allowing the players to enter the first BONUS level in which they can collect extras that they keep when they meet the end-of-world enemy.
In the Rookie world you also had the chance to discover the first Secret Level. Go to the Secret Level page to find out more about Secret Levels in general and the Secret Level of the Rookie World in particular.
Collecting extras helps you to fight your enemies

At the end of the Rookie world you have to face your first End-of-World Enemies: the giant Toy Snake. This was, in line with the other enemies in this world, not very hard to kill. The snake may be pretty fast, but since it is comparatively small (compared to the other End-of-World enemies) and there's lots of space in the final level you should be able to avoid it most of the time and hit it with your bombs.
Besides that scattered throughout the end-of-world level are some extras like shields and bonus lives that will help you to defeat the Toy Snake. And If you've been to the BONUS Level before the final stage, you'll have additional firepower and probably even the speed to avoid the snake and blow it away easier.
